What is an NFC Tag?
NFC (Near Field Communication) tags are small, programmable chips that can store data and trigger actions on your phone when tapped. They're used in business cards, product keychains, smart home automation, sharing Wi-Fi passwords, and more.
The best part? You can program them yourself using just your Android or iPhone — no computer, no special equipment required.
What You Need
Programming NFC Tags on Android
Step 1: Download an NFC Writer App
Install one of these free apps from the Google Play Store:
Step 2: Open NFC Tools and Tap "Write"
Open the app and select Write then Add a Record. You'll see a list of data types you can write:
Step 3: Choose Your Data Type
For example, to write a URL: tap URL / URI, enter your link (e.g. https://3dfusionforge.com), then tap OK.
Step 4: Write to the Tag
Tap Write / X bytes at the bottom. Hold your NFC tag flat against the back of your phone (usually near the centre or top). The app will confirm "Write complete" in a second or two.
✅ Your tag is now programmed!
Programming NFC Tags on iPhone (iOS)
iPhones from XS and newer support NFC writing. Older iPhones (X and below) can only read NFC, not write.
Step 1: Download NFC Tools for iOS
Search for NFC Tools on the App Store (same app as Android, by wakdev). It's free with optional paid upgrades.
Step 2: Tap "Write" and Add a Record
The interface is identical to Android. Select Write → Add a Record and choose what you want to store on the tag (URL, text, contact, etc.).
Step 3: Write to the Tag
Tap Write at the bottom. iOS will show a native NFC scan prompt — hold your tag near the top edge of your iPhone (that's where the NFC antenna is located on iPhones). You'll feel a haptic buzz and see "Tag written successfully".
✅ Done! The tag is now programmed and ready to use.
